Accessibility Statement for myjobscotland (www.myjobscotland.gov.uk)
This accessibility statement applies to www.myjobscotland.gov.uk website and our core services.
This website is run by myjobscotland. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible is the myjobscotland website
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
-
Our “LiveChat” enquiry tool may be difficult to use with screen reader software.
-
Some PDF and Word files added by recruiting advertisers are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
-
At 200% and 400% zoom there are issues with the cookies banner.
-
Links are not always descriptive of their intended purpose or destination.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
myjobscotland is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed.
We are working routinely with our website team and application suppliers to address all issues and to fully comply with WCAG 2.1 AA as soon as possible.
Alternative text
All images on this site are accompanied by a brief alternative text which where appropriate identifies an image or its function. This alternative text (alt-text) is generally only visible when the browser's automatic image loading feature is turned off.
Links
All text links are written so that they make sense when read out of context.
Text size
The text on this website has been styled using a non-fixed value in a style sheet. This means that you can easily change the text size using your browser settings.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
-
Accessing PDF/Word document content on the site is being reviewed and transferred to accessible webpages where possible. This fails WCAG success criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page, 1.1.1 Non-text content and 1.3.1 Info and Relationships: Content is not tagged. This is an ongoing review that will take place throughout 2024.
-
Live Chat This function can be found through tabbing, however as it's a third-party tool, options for introducing further accessibility functionality are limited. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard. Options are being investigated currently and updates will be made, if possible, in October 2024.
- Links are not always descriptive of their intended purpose or destination. This means that people with motion impairment are unable to skip links that they are not interested in, people with cognitive limitations may be disoriented and people with visual disabilities are unable to determine the purpose of a link without leaving the link to explore its context. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose – in context (Level A) and 2.4.9 Link Purpose - Link Only - (Level AAA).
We plan to ensure that all links, within our control, are descriptive of their purpose and destination both in and out of the context of the page content by 31st October 2024. When we publish new content, we will make sure that links are descriptive and meet the accessibility standards.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish directly will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
myjobscotland are committed to improving the accessibility of our websites. Following a report issued by the Government Digital Service in July 2024 we have rectified the issues raised. Following a rigorous external audit by the Digital Accessibility Centre we are committed to addressing the additional issues raised by June 2025.
Disproportionate burden
There may be accessibility problems with content that we do not provide ourselves, such as jobs posted by employers including their images, logs, and uploaded documents such as Word and PDF files. We highlight the importance of accessibility to our recruiters, but it would be a disproportionate burden to review every advert placed and assess for accessibility issues. In addition, myjobscotland does not own or create this information and has no rights to edit the content. We are unable to fix these issues.
